An Australian cafe is charging its male customers more to draw attention to the Australian gender pay gap.

A cafe in Melbourne has been causing a stir by trying to bring attention to Australia’s gender pay gap.

Handsome Her, a cafe in Brunswick has introduced an 18 percent surcharge for it’s male customers which they say is equals the gender pay gap between men and women.

The “gender surcharge” is optional and is donated to a women’s charity, so far no male customer has refused to pay it.

The vegan cafe has three anti-patriarchal rules, which include, a premium surcharge for males, priority seating for women and respect for both genders.

The Australian gender pay gap has lingered between 15% and 19% for the last two decades according to the Australian Government Workplace Gender Equality Agency website.
