The governor of California gave his first speech, but his two-year-old son may be the one remembered.
Gavin Newsom gave his first speech as California's governor but surprised everyone when he lifted his two-year-old son on stage.
The former lieutenant said: “Now more than ever, we Californians know how much a house matters and children matter."
He continued to audience applause and said: "In our home, every child should be loved, fed and safe. My wife Jennifer and I have four children, and there’s nothing more important — I hope you can tell — than giving them a good and happy life.”
In a blow to the Trump administration, he went on to say that all children, regardless of economic or immigration status, deserve a good life in California and should not be “ripped away from their parents at the border.”
Euronews' Brussels Correspondent Meabh McMahon told Raw Politics the comments and his son will "obviously give him a lot of votes and a lot of popularity because people always love cute kids".
