A baby has been born in Portugal almost four months after the mother was declared brain-dead.

The boy weighing 2.5kg was born by caesarian section at Lisbon’s São José hospital. It is the longest a baby has survived in the womb in Portugal after the mother was declared brain-dead.

The family made the decision to continue the pregnancy after the mother suffered a brain haemorrhage.
