This is the frantic heart-in-the-mouth moment a baby was caught after falling from a second-storey window in China, according to local reports.

CCTV shows the unfolding drama as two men spot the one-year-old on a window ledge in Xiaolan Town, Guangdong Province.

The two heroes, identified only as Mr Li and Mr Hu, jockey frantically for position as they spot the baby in a perilous position.

Then, suddenly, one of the men lurches forward to successfully catch the baby, as it plummets towards the street.

Li, speaking to Reuters, said: “I didn’t think too much at the time. I was just afraid of failing to catch him. Some people put down cardboard to avoid serious injuries to the baby if I failed to catch him.”

“It was nothing but human instinct to do so,” Hu added.

The drama unfolded amid a heavy downpour, with the two men appearing to struggle to pick out the baby’s exact position prior to its fall.
