Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) echoed the Islamic State’s ‘donut stunt’ after liberating Raqqa, Syria from the militants on October 17. The stunt was previously performed by the Islamic State (ISIS) when they captured Raqqa three years earlier.
After capturing the city of Raqqa on June 29, 2014, ISIS-held a parade on the Al-Naim Roundabout where military tanks drove in circles, or donuts. The parade was held after ISIS militants declared “a caliphate” over their Iraqi and Syrian territories.
Three years later, a BMP personnel carrier from the SDF repeated the scene as they announced that Raqqa had been taken back from ISIS.
The US-backed SDF campaign has been ongoing for four months and brought extensive damage to the Raqqa.
