Los Angeles has announced it plans to host the 2028 Olympic Games, leaving the path clear for Paris to hold the 2024 event

Los Angeles has announced it plans to host the 2028 Olympic Games, leaving the path clear for Paris to hold the 2024 event.

The IOC has said there were only the two cities in the running for the successive events, but until now it was unclear who would take each date.

The two cities were the only ones left in the race after Budapest, Hamburg and Rome withdrew.

Both Paris and LA had hoped to host the earlier games, with Paris claiming that it was essential that they got it due to the Olympic site not being available for development at the later date.

But LA had claimed that they already have the infrastructure in place, so could easily deliver the games without huge cost. It’s thought that a financial incentive will have been at the heart of the final decision to delay their bid.
