But that’s exactly what online publication Ginger Parrot did, launching a petition demanding the introduction of redheaded emoji.

The icons, digital images that smartphone users employ to express themselves in messaging applications, have, until now, not featured a redheaded person.

But, now that could all be about to change.

Apple is this week to host a meeting of the Unicode Technical Committee, where they are expected to discuss the introduction of a new range of ginger emoji.

The debate is expected to centre on which design to implement.

Search engine Emojipedia says the lack of a ginger emoji is one of the most popular complaints among its users.
