Marines have led a funeral procession for former US astronaut and senator John Glenn in Columbus, Ohio.

He died earlier this month at the age of 95.

Vice-president Joe Biden was among those to attend the memorial service.

Considered to be one of the 20th century’s greatest explorers Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth spending nearly five hours in flight. He later became the world’s oldest astronaut travelling to space at the age of 77.

He is expected to be buried in Arlington Cemetery, near Washington DC, in the spring.
