Russia’s parliament has deprived an opposition deputy of his immunity. He could now face charges of embezzlement.

Ilya Ponomaryov, who is now in the United States and one of the last critics of President Vladimir Putin in the chamber, says the case against him is politically motivated.

Last year he was the only one to vote against the annexation of Crimea.
