A sailor missing for two months at sea has been rescued from his capsized boat 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina, USA.
Louis Jordan, 37 was sailing from Conway, South Carolina, when he got into difficulty. He was reported missing by his father on January 29.
The US coastguard said he was found afloat on the overturned hull after being spotted by a German cargo vessel. The ship took him aboard and he was later flown to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was examined for injuries to his shoulder.
“We became aware of his disappearance from 29 January,” a coastguard spokesman said: “He decided to head offshore to go fishing. Somewhere along that timeframe his mast broke and his communication gear was damaged in rough weather. At that point he became disabled and adrift.”
The coastguard added that he survived by fishing with a net collecting rainwater and rationing the food he had.
Speaking to his son after his rescue, Jordan’s father said: “I’m so thankful you’re alive. That’s all that matters”
